1968 CERTINA DS-2 vintage automatic watch, working and serviced

CERTINA DS-2 vintage automatic watch, with in-house 25-651 movement, Swiss made in 1968, case of 38 mm excluding the crown, automatic (self-winding with the user’s movements) and hand-wound (mechanical, no battery!) with date indication, working fine and serviced.

Certina, the legendary Swiss watch brand, was founded in 1888 in Grenchen by Adolf and Alfred Kurth. The brand officially adopted “Certina” (from the Latin “certus,” meaning “certain”) in 1938.
Certina took a step forward in its resistance concept with the launch of the DS-2 in 1968, succeeding the original 1959 model. The DS-2 maintained and improved the “Double Security” (DS) principle, offering exceptional resistance to shock, water, and pressure through its movement damping system and robust case.
The DS-2 was distinguished by its modern design, often featuring more streamlined cases (such as the popular C-shaped or “barrel” style cases) and housing reliable automatic movements, like the Caliber 25-651. These watches were not only robust but also aesthetically appealing, being used in specialized models for diving and rallying. Vintage Certina DS-2 watches are highly valued by collectors for their proven durability, their distinctive late 60s aesthetic, and the reliability of their automatic movements.

The case is stainless steel, with scratches as can be seen in the photos. The dial shows a heavy nice patina that gives this piece a genuine vintage look – please refer to the photos.
The watch also features a new brown leather strap. It will fit wrists of up to 22 cm.
Water resistance has not been tested, therefore it must be treated as NON-waterproof.
The watch will be delivered in a new padded box as seen in the photos, for a better protection during transportation and for a smart and safe storing once you receive it.

Date quickset by changing 23-24h. As with any other vintage mechanical watch, exact accuracy cannot be guaranteed, as it depends on many factors, including your kind of use. It has been regulated in different positions to minimize the average time gain/loss. The watch has been fully serviced in November 2025.
