Why I picked this watch: I picked this Omega Jumbo because reference 2808 is a Holy Grail for the Omega enthusiast. It is the largest time-only, manual-wind wristwatch Omega created during the mid-20th century. Furthermore, this is a truly unique timepiece; it was a one-owner watch, having been tucked away in a drawer for decades. Retaining all its original components—including the signed crystal and crown—it remained in near-mint condition. Truly a collector’s dream!Â
OMEGA Jumbo vintage watch, Swiss Made with in-house 266 movement, 40 mm across excluding the crown, hand-wound (mechanical, no battery!), working fine and serviced. Its serial number dates it to 1954. Ref. 2808-1.
Omega, the legendary Swiss watchmaker, was founded in 1848 in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The company truly took its iconic name in 1903, inspired by their revolutionary 1894 “Omega” calibre, a movement renowned for its precision and ease of repair. Throughout the 20th century, Omega became synonymous with groundbreaking achievements, including being the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932 and the producer of the iconic Seamaster collection. Omega caliber 266 is a manual-wind movement produced in the 1950s, celebrated for its robust 30mm design and enduring precision. This vintage icon features a 17-jewel architecture, offering watch enthusiasts a reliable, historically significant piece of mid-century Swiss craftsmanship.
This timepiece is truly unique. A one-owner watch, it had been kept in a drawer for decades. When I serviced it, I was able to confirm that it had never been opened (no watchmaker marks on the caseback) and it was in near-mint condition, except for the strap, which had degraded and had to be replaced. The pictures speak for themselves! Gold-plated case and original Omega-signed dial, glass and crown. The watch also features a new Hirsch brown leather strap. It will fit wrists of up to 21 cm. Lug width is 19 mm. Water resistance has not been tested, therefore it must be treated as NON-waterproof.
The watch will be delivered in its original Omega box as seen in the pictures.
A printed Certificate of Authenticity will be provided with all relevant information.
As with any other vintage mechanical watch, exact accuracy cannot be guaranteed, as it depends on many factors, including your kind of use. It has been regulated in different positions to minimize the average time gain/loss. The watch has been recently serviced.
