Description

Why I picked this watch: I selected this 1952 Longines because it hits the ‘sweet spot’ for the modern collector: an impressive 37.5mm ‘Jumbo’ case paired with the legendary Calibre 12.68Z. In the early 50s, a watch of this scale was a true rarity, and today it offers a contemporary wrist presence that is hard to find in vintage pieces. Beyond its proportions, the 12.68Z movement is a masterpiece of reliability and finishing, making it as functional as it is beautiful. It is, quite simply, the perfect intersection of mid-century horology and modern wearability. By the way – what a great classic movie!

LONGINES vintage watch, with in-house 12.68z movement, Swiss made in 1952 (according to its serial number and the Longines registers), case of 37.5 mm across excluding the crown (Jumbo size), hand-wound (mechanical, no battery!), working fine and serviced. Ref. 6210-2 / 73.

Longines, the prestigious Swiss watchmaker, was founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz in Saint-Imier. The brand, officially named “Longines” in 1867, quickly established a reputation for precision and quality.
Caliber 12.68z is one of the brand’s most celebrated manual-wind movements, produced from the late 1930s through the 1950s. This caliber was a versatile workhorse known for its exceptional quality, precision, and robust design, typically featuring a small seconds sub-dial. Used in pilot’s, military, and dress watches, vintage Longines models with the 12.68z movement are highly sought after for their technical excellence and association with the brand’s golden age.

This piece features a very rare gold-plated case, as most of the 12.68z come in a steel case. It is a bit worn on some areas – please check the photos. The dial shows a nice, uniform patina. The watch features a new brown leather strap. It will fit wrists of up to 21 cm. Lug width is 19 mm.
Water resistance has not been tested, therefore it must be treated as NON-waterproof.
The watch will be delivered in its original Longines box as seen in the photos, for a better protection during transportation and for a smart and safe storing once you receive it.

As with any other vintage mechanical watch, exact accuracy cannot be guaranteed, as it depends on many factors, including your kind of use. It has been regulated in different positions to minimize the average time gain/loss. The watch has been recently serviced.
