Why I picked this watch: I picked this watch because it is a remarkable survivor from the dawn of wristwatch history. Produced in 1915 during the First World War, this Omega trench watch embodies the transition from pocket watches to the wristwatches that would define the 20th century. Its silver case, military-inspired design, and authentic century-old mechanical movement give it a character that simply cannot be replicated.
OMEGA vintage silver trench watch, Swiss Made with in-house 13”’ movement, 35 mm across excluding the crown, hand-wound (mechanical, no battery!), working fine and serviced. Its serial number dates it to 1915 (World War I).
Omega, the legendary Swiss watchmaker, was founded in 1848 by Louis Brandt. The company truly took its iconic name in 1903, inspired by their revolutionary 1894 “Omega” calibre.
A trench watch is a wristwatch style that emerged during World War I, when soldiers in trench warfare needed a faster, more practical way to check the time than carrying a pocket watch. Typical features include lugs soldered to the case for attaching a wrist strap; large, highly legible Arabic numerals, and mechanical hand-wound movements. Trench watches are historically significant because they helped transform the wristwatch from a niche accessory into the standard form of personal timekeeping, paving the way for modern military and civilian wristwatches.
The case is made of 935 silver, as certified by the Swiss bear hallmark – it was probably produced for the British market. It has some scratches and wear – please check the photos. The enamel dial has some hairlines. The watch also features a new black toad leather strap. It will fit wrists of up to 19 cm (a longer strap can be provided upon request). Lug width is 18 mm. Water resistance has not been tested, therefore it must be treated as NON-waterproof. This is a historical timepiece and should be treated as such.
The watch will be delivered in a later original Omega box as seen in the pictures.
As with any other vintage mechanical watch, exact accuracy cannot be guaranteed, as it depends on many factors, including your kind of use. It has been regulated in different positions to minimize the average time gain/loss. The watch has been recently serviced.
