Description

Why I picked this watch: I selected this 1971 Seiko Bell-Matic because it is one of the most charismatic examples of mechanical ingenuity from the 1970s. Its soul is the Calibre 4006, a marvel of engineering that manages to house a fully mechanical alarm within an automatic movement. Finding a Bell-Matic in this condition, with its inner rotating alarm bezel functioning perfectly, is a collector’s dream. I chose this piece for the enthusiast who wants a ‘gadget’ watch from a golden era of Seiko—a robust, conversation-starting tool watch that you can actually hear and feel on the wrist.

SEIKO Bell-Matic automatic vintage watch, reference 4006-6030, with in-house 4006A movement with EN day and date feature, Japan made in 1971 (according to its serial number), case of 39 mm, automatic (self-winding with the user movements, mechanical, no battery!), working fine and serviced. This model was the first automatic alarm watch with a central rotor.

Seiko, a powerhouse in Japanese watchmaking, began its journey in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori opened a shop in Tokyo, officially adopting the “Seiko” brand name for its watches in 1924. Among their many innovations, the Seiko Bell-Matic, introduced in 1966, stands out as Japan’s first automatic wristwatch with an alarm function, making it a highly collectible and technically interesting piece from the brand’s mid-century mechanical era. Vintage Seiko watches are highly sought after by collectors for their innovation, reliability, and diverse range of iconic models.

The case is stainless steel, with some scratches as can be seen in the photos. The dial and alarm ring are in a very good condition. The original lume of hands and indexes still glows a bit after more than 50 years! The watch also features its original Seiko stainless steel bracelet. It will fit wrists of up to 20 cm. Water resistance has not been tested, therefore it must be treated as NON-waterproof.

As with any other vintage mechanical watch, exact accuracy cannot be guaranteed, as it depends on many factors, including your kind of use. It has been regulated in different positions to minimize the average time gain/loss. The watch has been recently serviced.
The watch will be delivered in a padded box as seen in the photos, for a better protection during transportation and for a smart and safe storing once you receive it.
