Why I picked this watch: I selected this 1945 Movado for one primary reason: its in-house Calibre 75 movement. During an era when many brands were beginning to shift toward generic outsourced movements, Movado continued to design and manufacture its own ‘engines,’ making this watch a piece of pure, coherent horology. From an engineering standpoint, I find the honest patina of the dial remarkable—it preserves 80 years of history without any artificial restoration. I also appreciate the integrity of its 34.2 mm case—a size that was the standard of masculine elegance in 1945 and today sits with incredible sophistication on any wrist.
Very rare MOVADO vintage watch, with in-house 75 movement, Swiss made ca. 1945, 34.2 mm across excluding the crown, hand-wound (mechanical, no battery!), working fine and fully serviced.
Movado, a prestigious Swiss manufacture, was founded in 1881. The company adopted the name “Movado” in 1905, a word in Esperanto meaning “always in motion,” reflecting the brand’s philosophy of continuous innovation. The Caliber 75 is a classic manual-wind movement, produced from the 1930s through the 1950s. Known for its reliability and its characteristic sub-seconds dial, this in-house caliber powered some of Movado’s most elegant mid-century dress watches. Today, collectors value watches with the Caliber 75 as authentic examples of Movado’s heritage as a high-end, independent Swiss manufacture.
The chromed case is a bit worn in the lugs and sides and has marks and scratches – please check the photos. The dial shows a nice, uniform patina, and some marks and stains. Again, please check the detailed photos.
The watch also features a new Hirsch brown leather strap. It will fit wrists of up to 22 cm. Lug width is 17 mm.
Water resistance has not been tested, therefore it must be treated as NON-waterproof.
The watch will be delivered in a padded box as seen in the photos, for a better protection during transportation and for a smart and safe storing once you receive it.
As with any other vintage mechanical watch, exact accuracy cannot be guaranteed, as it depends on many factors, including your kind of use. It has been regulated in different positions to minimize the average time gain/loss. The watch has been fully serviced recently.
